The Trust recognises and represents the widest family of Firefighters both in the public and private sector. The Trust honours all Firefighters & Fire Personnel attending operational incidents and who are sadly called upon to make the ultimate sacrifice, irrespective of them being from local authority, industrial or commercial Fire Services. MEMBERSHIP CATEGORIES:
OPERATIONAL & RETIRED FIREFIGHTERS: The Board of Trustees is very conscious that this Trust was established to recognise and honour the dedication and sacrifice made by Firefighters, in the course of their operational duties. The Trust particularly sought to honour those who sadly make the ultimate sacrifice whilst serving their respective communities. The Board of Trustees were of the unanimous opinion that all serving and retired Operational Firefighters together with other Operational Personnel who attend incidents, should be invited to become Firefighter Members free of charge. A Membership Register will be maintained under confidential cover and not displayed on our website or distributed to any other agency. operational personnel, who register, will only be shown on the website as a collective total number of Members under their current Fire & Rescue Authority. Similarly retired personnel, who register, will be shown as a collective total number of Members against the Fire & Rescue Authority from which they retired.
FIRE AUTHORITY MEMBERSHIP: The Board of Trustees decided that it would be fitting and appropriate to invite Fire Authorities to become Members by way of paying a reasonable annual subscription. Their annual subscription would greatly assist the Trust in the financial costs it faces. Virtually every Fire & Rescue Service have the names of their Operational Personnel cast in bronze on the National Memorial by St Paul’s Cathedral. In addition the National Monument at the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire represents every Firefighter in the UK. The work of the Trust serves to mark and honour those operational Fire Service Personnel on behalf of the respective Fire Authorities and the communities they serve and an element of the National Memorial is also a War Memorial, dedicated in memory of the death of 997 Firefighters killed in WWII.
INDIVIDUAL MEMBERSHIP: Individuals may join as subscribing members by making an ongoing annual donation of £12. The individual names of those subscribing will be recorded on our website. COMPANY MEMBERSHIP: The Trustees were united in their view that companies should be invited to support the work of the Trust by becoming subscribing Members. A modest annual subscription was set on the basis that it would encourage the smallest companies, to become a Company Member. The subscription was also frozen for three years. Companies that take up this invitation, can be shown on our website with their name, logo and text of up to 60 words. It was agreed that they may record their Membership on their stationery in the following terms: - “Member of the United Kingdom Firefighters Memorial Charitable Trust”.
VOLUNTARY & CHARITABLE GROUP MEMBERSHIP: Appropriate voluntary and charitable organisations or indeed groups that have an affinity and or wish to assist the Trust may apply for registration as a Voluntary/Charitable Group Member and if successful will able to display their name on our website. Membership will be subject to a regular three yearly review, at which time it will be re-assessed and if appropriate renewed for a further three-year period. There will be no charge for Voluntary Membership.
NEXT OF KIN & FAMILY MEMBERS: The Board of Trustees are very aware and are particularly sensitive to the feelings of the next of kin and families of those named on our Memorial. The Memorial is there in memory of their loved ones who have made the ultimate sacrifice. The entire Membership therefore honours them and in doing so we are also honouring the families and recognising their loss.
The Board of Trustees therefore felt that next of kin and family members would not be automatically invited to become members of the Trust. However if they still wish to become registered members, there are two routes open to them. The first is as a Voluntary Group of family members as shown above and for which there are properly no fees or charges or on the other hand, if they particularly wish to contribute financially, then they could join as Individual Members as shown above.
